Managing Director of the East African Tea Trade Association Pays Courtesy Call on Acting High Commissioner of Sri Lanka
The Managing Director of the East African Tea Trade Association (EATTA), Mr. George Omuga, paid a courtesy call on the Acting High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Kenya, Ms. Ruvini De Silva, at the High Commission of Sri Lanka in Nairobi.
The discussions focused on Sri Lanka Expo 2027, scheduled to be held from 14–17 January 2027 in Colombo, and the upcoming promotional briefing sessions to be hosted by the High Commission in Nairobi on 25 September 2026 and Mombasa on 02 October 2026.
During the meeting, Mr. Omuga highlighted the longstanding relationship between the East African Tea Trade Association and its Sri Lankan counterparts, emphasizing the strong and enduring ties between the tea industries of Sri Lanka and East Africa. He encouraged stakeholders from the tea sector to participate in the forthcoming briefing sessions and Sri Lanka Expo 2027, noting that these platforms would provide valuable opportunities to strengthen existing partnerships, explore new avenues for collaboration, and promote mutually beneficial trade and investment.
Established in 1956, the EATTA is the premier regional tea trade body representing members from ten countries; Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Ethiopia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Malawi, Madagascar and Mozambique. The Association plays a pivotal role in promoting the East African tea industry and facilitating regional and international tea trade.
